Ammonium Sulfate is an inorganic chemical compound crystalline used primarily as a fertilizer. It is a Nitrogenous (N) fertilizer and valuable where both Nitrogen and Sulphur are required in growing crops. It is an effective fertilizer when applied on alkaline soils where an ammonium ion is released when in contacts with a damp soil. It also contributes nitrogen, which aids in plant growth. It dissolves relatively slowly, which makes it cheaper than some other artificial fertilizers.

 

Ammonium Sulfate is a by-product from various industries. For example, the nylon manufacturing process produces ammonium sulfate as a by-product. In another, certain byproducts that contain ammonia or spent sulfuric acid are commonly converted to ammonium sulfate for use in agriculture. The color ranges from white to beige.
