The galvanized barbed wire is best suited to fire prone areas as the soft wire is less likely to be affected by the intense heat caused by a grass or bush fire, and is traditionally used in dry arid areas where corrosion resistance is not as important.

Galvanized IOWA or MOTTO barbed wire is commonly used for cattle because of the larger 2.*0mm wire used, and it also requires less tension than the high tensile barbed wires.
