Understanding Cement
Most people only know one type of cement, namely cement which is
used and mixed with water, sand and stone. Cement is used for basic
infrastructure such as houses to heavy infrastructure such as dams,
roads and bridges to tunnels.
In general, the definition of cement that we know is "powder which,
when mixed with water, has adhesive properties that are able to
bind mineral materials into a solid unit." The word cement comes
from the Latin word "Cementum" which means "binder or
adhesive".
Portland element
Portland cement consists of 5 types with the following
differences in benefits:
Type 1 Portland cement is a hydraulic cement that is produced by
grinding Portland cement slag which mainly consists of calcium
silicate which is hydraulic and is ground together with
additional materials in the form of one or more crystalline forms
of calcium sulfate compounds and other additional materials may
be added.
Type II Portland cement is Portland cement whose use requires
resistance to sulfate or moderate heat of hydration.
Portland Cement Type III Portland cement which in its use
requires high strength at the initial stage after setting occurs.
Type IV Portland cement is Portland cement which requires a low
heat of hydration to use.
Type V Portland cement is Portland cement which in its use
requires high resistance to sulfates.
