Maori Journeys provides a range of unique tours with a special focus on pure indigenous cultural experiences. Based in Taranaki on the West coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Maori Journeys has been developed to support existing activities and attractions. We offer our guests the privilege of entering into the realms of the Maori world that is rich in tradition, culture and history which is still relevant today. According to tradition and protocol, entry into our Maori world by visitors not of Maori descent must be done in a traditional manner. Once the customary rituals are completed visitors become our most honoured guests and are placed under the mantle, guardianship and protection of our tribal elders, our ancestors and our gods. Cultural Adventure is a guided intrepid journey incorporating stories, songs, chants and poetry to combine the very best of cultural adventure tourism experiences. This journey follows many ancient Maori trails in the Taranaki and Wanganui regions. The journey includes established adventure experiences such as a mountain bush walk to a sacred healing site, a mountain adventure cycle tour, black water rafting, dam dropping, a two day river kayak excursion and lots more. If you’re looking to experience a fine blend of action and adventure mixed with indigenous story-telling, culture and history from the people of the land then this is the journey for you.
