R***0A is a zeotropic, but near-azeotropic mixture of difluoromethane (CH2F2, called R**2) and pentafluoroethane (CHF2CF3, called R***5), which is used as a refrigerant in air conditioning applications. R***0A cylinders are colored pink.

Description:

Unlike alkyl halide refrigerants that contain bromine or chlorine, R***0A (which contains only fluorine) does not contribute to ozone depletion, and is therefore becoming more widely used, as ozone-depleting refrigerants like R**2 are phased out. However, it has a high global warming potential (***8 times the effect of carbon dioxide), similar to that of R**2. Since R***0A allows for higher system efficiencies than an R**2 system, by reducing power consumption, the overall impact on global warming of R***0A systems will be substantially lower than that of R**2 systems due to reduced greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
