ELISA is a popular format of in vitro analytic biochemistry assay that uses a solid-phase enzyme immunoassay (EIA) to detect the presence of a substance usually an antigen.
It is a useful tool for determining serum antibody concentrations, such as with the hormonal diagnostics (steroids, glycoprotein, thyroid gland hormone, etc) and infections testing (TORCH, HIV, HSV, STDs, etc).
