They are epoxidized glycerol fatty esters. Epoxy functionalized oleochemicals are used as plasticizer and stabilizer in plastic materials especially for PVC and its copolymers to keep plastics and rubber soft and pliable. The epoxy functionality provides excellent heat and light stability. They are replacing for DOP (dioctyl phthalate) due to its biodegradability over traditional phthalate plasticizers. They are also used as pigment dispersion agents and acid/mercaptan scavenging agents and epoxy reactive diluents.
