Properties:
strong humidity*-absorb-ability, and can produce its dihydrate and hexahydrate. Easy soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, also in liquid sulfur dioxide, ethylamine, aniline; but insoluble in glycerol, or phosphorus trichloride. Its aqueous solution is acidic.

Stability:
Stable, but light sensitive. Incompatible with many common metals, strong bases, potassium and other alkali metals, strong oxidizing agents.

Toxicology:
Corrosive - causes burns. Harmful if swallowed, and in contact with skin. Prolonged contact may lead to dermatitis.
