Human CD*8 (CD*8 on the surface of T cells, Cluster of Differentiation *8)
CD*8 on the surface of T cells (Cluster of Differentiation *8), costimulatory signal molecule expressed by T cells. This costimulatory signal is required for T cell activation. As a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of adhesion molecules, the ligands of the CD*8 molecule are B**1 (CD*0) and B**2 (CD*6). The highly conserved MYPPPY motif in the V-like region of the CD*8 molecule binds to the B7 molecule Parts.
The combination of CD*8 and its natural ligand B7 can play a co-stimulatory role. As a second signal, it introduces T cell activation, promotes T cell proliferation and secretes various cytokines, and introduces T and B cell adhesion to prevent the formation of clonal unresponsive states.
