Leather beautification has been mired for centuries with traditional beautification methods such as dyeing, screen printing and embroidering. These technologies limit customization and personalization for reasons such as limited color space, image quality and the cost of producing one offs versus tens or hundreds of items. Recent advancements in digital technologies have brought about newer solutions such as dry toner (laser) and direct to leather UV printing which show promise but unfortunately can be limited by size, application and again the cost of producing one offs versus tens or hundreds of items. Most importantly all of the above technologies fail to provide a process that marries the properties of the leather with the custom image. Traditional customization processes are NOT subservient to the leather and therefore are NOT indistinguishable from the leather. Imaged Leather, utilizing a patented shape memory polymer and ink jet imaging is capable for the first time to provide a durable, high quality, custom digital image for the personalization of leather apparel that is INDISTINGUISHABLE from the leather.
