Self-aligning ball bearings are double rows, self-retaining units comprising solid outer rings with a spherical raceway, inner rings with a cylindrical or tapered bore, ball and cage assemblies. The bearings are available in open and sealed types.

Because Those bearings generate less frictional, self-aligning ball bearings can accommodate higher speed than any other types of self-aligning rolling bearings. An exceptionally low minimum load requirement virtually eliminates sliding during start-up and light-load working conditions. This reduces the risk of bearing damage, improving reliability,extending bearing life and reducing maintenance costs.

This type of ball bearing is recommended when alignment of the shaft and housing is difficult and the shaft may flex. Pressed steel cages are usually used. Since the contact angle is small, the axial load capacity is low. The permissible dynamic misalignment is approximately 0.*7 to 0.*2 radius (4 to 7 degrees) under normal loads.
