タイトルまたは説明
The kola nut is the fruit of the kola tree (Cola acuminata and Cola
nitida), indigenous to West Africa. The trees, which reach heights
of *0 to *0 feet, produce a star-shaped fruit. Each fruit contains
between two and five kola nuts. About the size of a chestnut, this
little fruit is packed with caffeine.
Kola nuts have a bitter taste when chewed fresh. When theyre dried,
the taste becomes milder and they reportedly smell of nutmeg.
The term kola nut usually refers to the seeds of certain species of
plant of the genus Cola, placed formerly in the cocoa family
Sterculiaceae and now usually subsumed in the mallow family
Malvaceae (as subfamily Sterculioideae). These cola species are
trees native to the tropical rainforests of Africa. Their
caffeine-containing seeds are used as flavoring ingredients in
beverages applied to various carbonated soft drinks, from which the
name cola originates. Kola nuts have about a dozen seeds
within the fruit. The seeds are approximately walnut sized, creamy
white when fresh, turning pink to reddish brown when dry. The nut
has sweet, rose-like smell but is quite bitter to the taste. Flavor
tends to decrease in bitterness with chewing. The teeth, lips and
gums of the person chewing cola nuts will turn orange.
The Kola tree flowers for three months, and then fruits for three
months. The dried nuts are available year-round
Kola nitida is a tropical evergreen tree from West Africa. The Kola
tree can grow up to *5 meters ta
