Lutein is an oil-soluble pigment which extract from Marigold flower. It is a frequently-used additive in food industry as a food color or nutrient supplement. It is yellow in low concentration and dark-red in high concentration.

There are two type of lutein: Free form and Ester form. Both of them are important ingredients for food and pharmaceutical industries. Lutein ester has stronger resistance to light and heat. It is often used in beverage and bakery, providing bright yellow colors. Free lutein has higher bioavailability, can be easily absorbed by human body. It is often used in health food, providing eye-care function.
