Olivine mine has become quite important mineral in terms of its physical characteristics in iron-steel, casting, foundry and refractory industries of Europe's and world's developed countries for the past ****5 years.

Its consumption rapidly increased whether due to world's developed countries taking the path of prohibiting the use of minerals and raw materials containing free silica through the laws they regulate with intentions to prevent risking occupational and environmental health on the subject of health and environment or due to olivine being more economic than mines alternatives of olivine. (Use of minerals and raw materials containing free silica was prohibited by ministry of health in Turkey in year ***9.) Olivine does not contain free silica in its metal body (Silisium content is bonded with Magnesium body in Olivine crystal compound).

Olivine, as a general term, is used to represent medium silica group containing solid solution mixtures of Fosterit (Mg2SiO4) and Fayalite (Fe2SiO4) together with describing minerals containing *5 % Fosterit. Olivine is usually in green and dark green colors and it is mineral rather hard. Its hardness is between 6.5 and 7 (Mohs Hardness Scale) and its density on the other hand is between 3.*2 gr/cm3 and 4.*0 g/cm3 according to Fe rate. Olivines, especially olivine with magnesium are mostly found in ultra basic rocks. Olivines are first crystallizing minerals in ultra basic magma. Most olivine is found within dunites inside the ultra basic rocks. Olivine amount found inside dunite is between *5 to *9%.

Amount of MgO used in olivines in the industry is usually required to be above *6% and the amount of Total Fe oxides to be no more than **8%. Also, SiO2 amount needs to be between *8 to *2%. Total of other metal oxides required being less than 3% and loss on ignition is required not to exceed 2%.

The estimately total Olivine production capacity of Turkey is **0.**0 metric tones and *0.**0 metric tones of total production is exportation amount.
