Procalcitonin antibody (anti－PCT)
Procalcitonin (PCT) is a protein whose levels in plasma increase when severe bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections and sepsis and multiple organ failure occur. PCT does not increase during autoimmunity, allergies, and viral infections. Locally limited bacterial infections, mild infections and chronic inflammation will not cause it to rise. Bacterial endotoxins play a vital role in the induction process.
PCT reflects the active degree of systemic inflammatory response. Factors that affect PCT levels include the size and type of infected organs, the type of bacteria, the degree of inflammation, and the status of the immune response. In addition, PCT can only be measured in a few patients within **4 days after major surgery.
Increased PCT levels occur in severe shock, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), even without bacterial infections or bacterial lesions. However, PCT levels in these cases are usually lower than those with bacterial lesions. Release of cytokines from the intestine or bacterial translocation may cause induction.
PCT is a parameter for the diagnosis and monitoring of bacterial inflammatory disease infections, and its measurement can be predicted as: an acute parameter to distinguish between bacterial and non-bacterial infections and inflammation; monitoring patients at risk of infection (such as surgical and postoperative Immunosuppression period after organ transplantation, multiple traumas) and patients requiring intensive care to detect systemic effects of bacterial infections or detect septic complications; evaluate the clinical course and prognosis of severe inflammatory diseases such as peritonitis, sepsis SIRS and MODS, etc.
