Projects of a certain size or complexity require a set of key ingredients to be successful: a positive business case, an effective project team, a sponsor, a customer or receiving party and a methodology.

Assigning a project team is one thing, but turning it into a high performing top team is something else. Because project teams are temporary by definition and team members will often not be working full time on the project, not much time is available to polish the cooperation between the team members. Especially when a team is not working at one location, or even scattered all over the world.

Sometimes the project manager knows a methodology, but not his team. It helps a lot to speak the same project language, to be clear about roles and responsibilities of all team members, to use the right tools at the right moment.
