Constituents: 1,**3 % volatile oil ( with****0 % a- and *-thujones; about *0%other monoterpenes esp. cineole campher,borneol, small quantities of sesquiterpenes), **8 % tannins, among themrosmarinic acid (so called” the Labiataetannin”), diterpenoid bitter substancessuch as carnosol (syn. picrosalvln), **6% resin, wax i chlorogenic, caffeic andfumaric acids; oxytrit-erpenoids such asursolic and oleanolic acids; **3 % flavonoids(luteolin, ate).

Action: anti inflammatory, astringent, antimicrobial, antihydrotlc carminative, spasmolytic.Uses: Topically {paints, gargles, mouthwashes ) In the Inflammations of mouth, tongue or throat(stomatitis, angina, gingivitis). Orally: hyperhidrosls.By folk medicine In ablactation, dlsmenorrhoea and light cases of diabetes.
