CMC (Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose; Cellulose Gum; or Modified Cellulose) occurs as a white to cream colored powder or as granules. The powder is hygroscopic. It readily disperses in water to form colloidal solutions. It is insoluble in most solvents.  A 1:**0 aqueous suspension has a pH between 6.5 and 8.5.

Function Use:
For food industry as Thickener; stabilizer.
Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is also widely used to Toothpaste industry, Food industry, Architecture industry, ceramics industry, Oil industry, Paper-making industry and detergent, tobacco, battery, textile, electric welding industry.

Specification for food additives:
Assay:Not less than *9.5% and not more than **0.5% of Cellulose Gum, calculated on the dried basis.
Degree of Substitution:Not less than 0.2 and not more than 1.*0 carboxymethyl groups (—CH2COOH) per anhydroglucose
unit after drying.
Lead:Not more than 3 mg/kg.
Loss on Drying:Not more than *0.0%.
 Sodium: Not more than *2.4% after drying.
