Alginate oligosaccharide, whose degree of polymerization is lower than *0,  was produced by the degradation of algin, using different methods(acid degradation, enzymatic degradation, and oxidation degradation). 
Alginate oligosaccharide is a linear polysaccharide consisting of Î±-L-guluronate (G) and Î²-D-mannuronate (M). According to the arrangement of these residues, three products, which are homopolymer (polyguluronate, PG ), ( polymannuronate, PM) and heteropolymer (a mixed sequence of these residues, PMG) are supplied.
Characteristics 
Alginate oligosaccharide is yellow brown powder, and water-soluble with good stability. 
Biological functions

Alginate oligosaccharide has many biological functions, and can be applied extensively in medical industry, foods, daily chemical industry, feedstuff and agriculture. 
Biological functions 
1. Anti-tumor activity 
Alginate oligosaccharide can activate nonspecific immune and specific immune system. After activation, macrophage cell can inhibit tumor cell proliferation and kill the tumor. 
2.  Anticoagulation 
Heparin, as an effective anticoagulant, gradually displayed its side effects in clinical. Alginate oligosaccharide has good anticoagulant activity and decreases side effects.
