THE PRODUCT: CARRAGEENAN is a refined hydrocolloid prepared by either aqueous mild chemical (PNG) or alcohol/KCl (traditionally refined) extraction of red seaweeds. Presently, carrageenan is used as binder, stabilizer, emulsifier, and gelling agent in traditional food, pharmaceutical, personal care and many other industries. New breakthroughs have been made on the use of carrageenan in many non-traditional applications such as in processed meat and poultry, bakery, noodles and pasta, textiles and paints. THE MARKET - Most of various food and non-food products need stabilizers, binders, emulsifiers or gelling agents. Accordingly, the demand for carrageenan has multiplied as well as diversified. Dairy applications (ice creams, milk and flans) continue to dominate the food uses of carrageenan, but are being trailed by meat and poultry applications (pre-cooked or processed meats). For the domestic (Philippine) market, we are the leader in processed meat application with a market of *0%, while the remainder is shared by over 6 (six) local and foreign producers. Our carrageenan has also found market niches in the following countries: United Kingdom, Europe, North and South America, Mexico, Canada, Taiwan, Korea, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and other Asian countries and aims to further strengthen its market positions. Our carrageenan are European and USFDA approved.
