Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to bring the following facts to your kind notice regarding the rubies that are now on sale 1. Rubies have a hardness of 9.0 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, and among the natural gems, only diamonds are harder. Ruby gemstones are valued according to several characteristics including size, colour, clarity and cut. All natural rubies have imperfections in them, including colour impurities and inclusions of rutile needles known as "silk". If there is no silk in the stone, that shows that the stone was heated at ***0°C, to give the ruby a better colour of red. Usually the rough stone is heated before cutting. Rubies occasionally show asterism when cut into a cabochon. When they show this, they are called "star rubies". They can sometimes be more valuable than normal rubies because asterism is rare. 2. The world**9;s biggest ruby is the Rajaratna Ruby, which weighs 2, **5 carats (**5 g = 1 pound 1.*6 ounces). Because the Rajaranta shows asterism, it is also the largest star ruby. The world**9;s biggest double-star ruby (with a **-pointed star) is the Neelanjali Ruby, weighing 1, **0 carats (**4 g). (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) At 2, **5 carats (**5 g), the Rajaratna Ruby is the world**9;s largest ruby. The Rajaratna Ruby is also the world**9;s largest star ruby with its 6 point asterism. In Sanskrit, "Rajaratna" literally means King**9;s Jewel (Raja (King) + Ratna (Jewel)). 3. The Neelanjali Ruby, at 1, **0 carats (**4 g), is the world**9;s largest double-star ruby. A ruby is known as a star ruby if it contains an asterism (distinctive star-shaped light refraction) in the gem. The Neelanjali Ruby is the world**9;s largest star ruby with a *2 point asterism, which is commonly denoted as a double-star ruby. 4. The Raviratna at ***0 carats is the worlds largest 6 star ruby and it is yet to be disclosed to the press. All the above rubies have been tested at the world’s best gemmological laboratory in Switzerland. 5. The certificates of the same are available from GIA (USA) and Gubelin (Switzerland) upon request. Best regards, Sunjay Shankar **************5 *****
