Raw Material Lac is the natural resinous secretion of a microscopic insect on certain plants. It is characterized by it superior properties of conglutination, insulation, moisture proof, gloss, transparency, smooth thin, etc. It is harmless and tasteless, and is an important raw material for chemical, military, metallurgical, mechanical, carpentry, paper making, electronic, medical and food industries, etc. It is of high economic value. The main products from lac are: Seedlac, shellac flake, bleached shellac, red pigment, etc. 2. Composition The main composition of lac is resin. It also contains insect wax, pigment, matters soluble to water, etc. The compositions may vary for different trees, places and seasons. 3. Properties 1) It is the only natural resin that becomes hard after being heated. It is soluble to alcohol under normal temperature, but not so after being heated at **5℃ over 3 hours. 2) It is not soluble in water, but soluble in such organic solvents as alcohol, etc. and becomes dry quickly. It can be applied, in the form of an enduring, glossy, elastic and thin film, to the surface of most objects for decoration and protection. It is water, rust and ultraviolet proof and antiseptic. 3) It becomes shellac flake of superior quality after being put into alkaline solution and has high viscosity. 4) It is resistant to such a hydrocarbon solvent as gasoline. 5) It is a nonconductor at low temperature and with a low coefficient of expansion. Hence, it is a good insulator. 6) Our patented shellac flake is made of carefully selected raw material and identical to Indian shellac flake. It is transparent, wearable, soluble in alcohol, quickly dried, resistant to oil and acid, plastic, etc. It also has outstanding performance for colour fixing. 4.
