Introduction:

    Lycopene is kind of natural pigment with bright red color, found in tomato, watermelon, red grapefruit, Chinese guava, balsam pear etc. It is powerful antioxidant and has many biological activities, can strengthen immune function.

Functions:

    Lycopene is an open-chain unsaturated carotenoid that imparts red colour to tomatoes, guava, rosehip, watermelon and pink grapefruit. In the body, lycopene is deposited in the liver, lungs, prostate gland, colon and skin. Its concentration in body tissues tends to be higher than all other carotenoids.

    Lycopene, a powerful antioxidantabundant in red tomatoes and processed tomato products, may help prevent prostate cancer and some other forms of cancer, heart disease, and other serious diseases.

    Ongoing preliminary research suggests that lycopene is associated with reduced risk of macular degenerative disease, serum lipid oxidation and cancers of the lung, bladder, cervix and skin.
