Description
FCT is a flexible current probe utilizing the Rogowski
principle
,which is
suitable to conveniently measure single and three phase AC as well
as pulsed DC currents. After appropriate signal conditioning,
it can be used with digital multimeters, recorders and other
suitable equipment to measure current from very low frequencies up
to 1MHz.
The probes comprise a flexible air–cored sensor which can be
opened, allowing them to be installed around a primary conductor
without interrupting the circuit. The flexible and lightweight
measuring head allows quick and easy installation in hard to reach
areas and with large conductors.
The FCT is an ideal replacement for medium/large current, current
transformers(CT’s) and has the advantages that it is
:
Suitable to measure currents from mA to hundreds of kA
Wide dynamic range
Very useful with awkward shaped conductors or in places with
limited available space
No danger from open-circuited secondary
Not damaged by large overloads
Non-intrusive, no power drawn from the main
Thanks to its light weight, it can be hanged on the measured
conductor
Applications
Measuring devices, lab instrumentation
DC ripple measurement
Analysis of harmonics, power measurements
Very high current monitoring
Measuring starting transients of electric motors
Sudden short circuit testing
Protection system for slip-ring induction motors
Measuring the currents flowing in the framework of a large
generator
Shaft Current measurements
Measuring the current in Electromagnetic Launchers
Monitoring the current in railway lines to check signaling
currents
Arc furnace currents
High-current testing of switch-gear and fuses
Measuring leakage currents down insulators
