What
are Essential Oils?
The numerous health benefits of essential oils have been widely
touted by many cultures that have used aromatherapy to promote
healing of both the mind and body. Each oil features its own
distinct aromatic quality and is used in conjunction with other
oils, to create a specific result such as soothing anxiety, stress,
nausea and relieving headaches.
Essential oils are derived from different sections of various plant
lives, including the petals of a flower, the rind of a fruit,
leaves, twigs and bark from trees.
What
is Borage Oil?
Borage herb (Echium amoenum) is a large plant of the Boraginaceae
family, which grows in most of Europe and in northern Iran. The
borage flower is used as a medicinal herb in France and other
countries.
Today, Borage Oil is often employed as a skin replenishment
treatment, where it is thought to help lock in moisture and retain
the smoothness of young skin. And because of its innate healing
properties, Borage Oil can also be used to treat skin conditions
such as eczema and abrasions.
One further positive aspect of Borage Oil is its high content of
GLA. Through the body, GLA can be converted into prostaglandins.
Prostaglandins have been shown in various studies to help reverse
the effects of imbalanced levels of fatty acids in the body, which
can contribute to conditions such as cystic fibrosis, asthma,
diabetes and multiple sclerosis. It is possible that supplementing
with Borage Oil may help to prevent or at least delay the onset of
these conditions. Preliminary findings also indicate that GLA may
be effective in reversing neuropathy in diabetic patients, which is
when nerves degenerate, causing numbness and pain. For this reason,
it is recommended that all diabetics supplement their diets with a
good source of gamma linolenic acid—Borage Oil being that great
supplement.
