Menthol is one of the main ingredients of the essential oil
obtained from mint. It is used for the treatment of inflammation,
spasm and pain and applied from inside or outside (superficially).
After the topical application, menthol inhibits the calcium ion
currents of the nerve membranes by stimulating the "cold"
receptors, and creates a feeling of coolness. It is used as
auxiliary treatment with arthritis, strains, muscle stiffness,
muscle and join paints due to lumbago, rheumatic diseases and
neuralgia. For symptoms related with common cold and nasal
blockages, it helps with the relief when rubbed on breast or
back.
