APPLICATIONS
 
Blast furnace smelting
Generally, a blast furnace below 1000 m3 is used, and the equipment and production process are roughly the same as the iron-making blast furnace. As the manganese ore descends from the top of the furnace, high-priced manganese oxides (MnO2, Mn2O3, Mn3O4) are gradually reduced by CO to MnO as the temperature rises. However, MnO can only be directly reduced to metal through carbon at high temperatures, so ferromanganese smelting requires a higher hearth temperature. For this reason, the blast furnace for ferromanganese uses a higher coke ratio (about 1600 kg/ton) and air temperature (1000 kg/ton). ℃ above). In order to reduce manganese loss, the slag should maintain a high basicity (CaO/SiO2 greater than 1.3). Due to the high coke ratio and low indirect reduction rate, the gas yield and CO content of ferromanganese blast furnaces are higher than that of iron blast furnaces, and the top temperature of the furnace is also higher (above 350°C). Oxygen-enriched blast can increase the temperature of the hearth,reduce the coke ratio, increase the output, and reduce the temperature of the furnace top due to the reduction of gas volume,which has a significant improvement effect on the smelting of ferromanganese.
 
Electric furnace smelting
There are two types of reduction smelting of ferromanganese: flux method (also known as low manganese slag method) and flux-freemethod (high manganese slag method). The principle of flux method is the same as that of blast furnace smelting, except that electric energy is used instead of coke for heating. The high basicity slag (CaO/SiO2 is 1.3~1.6) is formed by adding lime to reduce the loss of manganese. The flux-free smelting method does not add lime to form a low-iron, low-phosphorus and manganese-rich slag with low alkalinity (CaO/SiO2 less than 1.0) and high manganese content. This method has a small amount of slag, which can reduce power consumption, and can reduce the evaporation loss of manganese due to the lower slag temperature. At the same time, the by-product manganese-rich slag (containing 25-40% manganese) can be used as a raw material for smelting manganese-silicon alloys to achieve higher Comprehensive recovery rate of manganese (above 90%). Modern industrial production mostly uses flux-free smelting of carbon ferromanganese, and combined production with the smelting composition of
manganese-silicon alloy and medium and low-carbon ferromanganese.
