It is mined in the upper Midwest region of the United States and is known for its combined high conductivity and crush strength, as well as its high sphericity and purity. Unlike Tier II frac sands, Northern White sand is a mono-crystalline Premium Tier I sand, over *9.6% pure quartz, with crush strengths of 8K to *1K for *0/**-mesh sand, as compared to 6K to 7K among Tier II sands.
