Washes are applied to cores and molds as an insulating and protective coating that peels the sand from the metal and produces a better casting finish. Factors influencing the selection of a wash include type of sand used, type of metal, coverage desired, method of application and the liquid selected as the carrier for the wash.

Chill Wash

Design: Developed as a protective coating to prevent molten metal from adhering to a Chill.
Base: Carbon base
Bond: Soft to medium bond
Suspension: Good suspension characteristics Suggested Applications Casting: Grey Iron, Ductile Iron castings and in Roll-type foundries.
Sand Systems: Effective in any sand system.
Application Technique: Sprayed, brushed or flow coated directly onto Chills. Advantages - Covers chills quickly and completely
