Orbea embraced big wheels early with the Alma: they debuted it as a *9er nearly a decade ago. But theyve also seen the light of smaller big wheels for smaller riders. The Small frames are exclusively equipped with *7.5 wheels, the Medium and Larges in both *7.5 and *9 and the Extra Large in *9. In all cases, the geometry has been tweaked to best utilize the wheel size chosen. For those in the middle, use personal preferences, and terrain to choose which wheel suits you best.

Thanks to their ability to manipulate carbon, Orbea has added considerable vertical give to the rear triangle here. Part of how they do it is with their 4x4 design. By adding several little extra bends from the back of the top tube all the way down the seat stays to the rear of the chain stays just past the dropouts, then moving carbon plies around, the bike is able to soak up bumps without the weight or complexity of a traditional full-suspension ride. And, with a wide BB*2 bottom bracket shell, they were able to brace the chain stays so they barely deflect in the lateral plane. To further the comfort at the saddle, they opted to design the seat tube with an opening for a *7.2mm seat post. The narrower diameter, as opposed to a *1.6mm post, allows for more vibration damping between the top of the seat tube and the saddle. All this design sorcery is kept light thanks to Orbea Monocoque Race carbon, Orbeas lightest carbon soup.
